SW AHSN relaunches Innovation Adoption Fund to support COVID-19 response

Posted On 29 April 2020

The South West Academic Health Science Network (SW AHSN) is relaunching a fund to support local innovators, businesses, and health and care teams across the South West to roll out their innovations to support the response to the coronavirus [COVID-19].

The SW AHSN has made the decision to postpone its original Innovation Adoption Fund supporting innovation designed to improve any aspect of health and care, and instead re-launch the fund with a focus on supporting innovation with the potential to support the vulnerable, older people and those who are self-isolating in their homes during this time.

We are offering any voluntary, community or social enterprises (VCSE), health and care teams, or small businesses across Somerset, Devon, Cornwall or the Isles of Scilly the opportunity to apply for grants of up to £6,000 to support faster adoption of their innovative ready-to-use technologies, services or interventions that have the potential to support the community response to COVID-19.

The SW AHSN plans to focus on the following key areas affecting vulnerable adults, their carers and families, mirroring the recent NHSX Techforce19 challenge:

Mental health & wellbeing

  • Improving access to peer to peer communities
  • Supporting self-management and wellbeing
  • Improving wellbeing of families and carers

Delivering and monitoring care and support in the home

  • Managing and delivering care in care homes
  • Delivering domiciliary care and technology in the home

Coordinating and mobilising social action

  • Support the use of digital platforms to facilitate access to VCSE support effectively
