The South West Academic Health Science Network is pleased to launch a new interactive toolkit to support the delivery of virtual RESTORE2™ and RESTORE2™ mini training.
The RESTORE2™ tool was developed by NHS West Hampshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) to support homes and health professionals to recognise when the person they are caring for may be deteriorating or at risk of physical deterioration. It requires taking a complete set of physical observations to inform escalation. In settings where it is not possible to take clinical observations, RESTORE2™ mini can be used.
Responding to COVID-19 with virtual RESTORE2™ and RESTORE2™ mini training
In March 2020, in response to the emergence of COVID-19, the British Geriatrics Society (BGS) recommended staff in care homes to use the RESTORE2™ tool to recognise deterioration in residents, measure vital signs and communicate concerns to NHS staff.
In response, we’ve been working with our partners to train care home and domiciliary care staff in detecting and appropriately escalating deteriorating residents using RESTORE2™ and RESTORE2™ mini. To date over 300 staff across the South West region have been trained in using either tool.
Now, to enable trainers to spread the training further afield, we’ve developed a new toolkit featuring in-depth guidance, templates and resources to enable trainers to deliver training in RESTORE2™ and RESTORE2™ mini. You can access the toolkit here.
Working in partnership for patient safety
We are continuing to work with local clinical commissioning groups, councils, primary care networks, NHS trusts and training providers to develop and deliver sustainable locally run RESTORE2™ training projects. We’re also working to host a South West RESTORE2™ training teams collaborative to bring teams together to share resources and learning to feed into the national RESTORE2™ advisory board.
Our South West Patient Safety Collaborative team would like to thank our partners and collaborators across the South West and beyond who have helped deliver virtual RESTORE2™ and RESTORE2™ mini training to date across Cornwall, Devon and Somerset during the COVID-19 pandemic, and those that have contributed to the development of the toolkit.
We look forward to hearing how teams use the new RESTORE2™ and RESTORE2™ mini training toolkit. For questions and feedback please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org
