Maternal and Neonatal Health Safety Collaborative

The Maternal and Neonatal Health Safety Collaborative was launched in February 2017 and covers all of the maternal and neonatal units in England.

The three-year programme aims to:

  • Improve the safety and outcomes of maternal and neonatal care by reducing unwarranted variation and provide a high-quality healthcare experience for all women, babies and families across maternity and neonatal care settings in England
  • Contribute to the national ambition, set out in Better Births of reducing the rates of maternal and neonatal deaths, stillbirths, and brain injuries that occur during or soon after birth by 20% by 2020

The South West Patient Safety Collaborative works with all of the teams who are part of the Collaborative to progress the national aim through local improvement projects, offering quality improvement coaching and convening our Local Learning System. This gives teams the opportunity to learn from each other and collaborate to make system-wide change and progress.

We also provide support and expertise with safety culture improvement work undertaken by all of the teams in the programme.
