Indemnity – Finding a Solution Workshop
29 November 2016 at 8:30 am - 12:30 pmFree
One of the key concerns within general practice in recent years is the ongoing rise in the costs of indemnity. It is recognised in the South West (Cornwall, Devon and Somerset) that practitioners other than GPs are impacted by the cost and availability of indemnity cover to support emerging new models of care. The issue is so significant that it has been raised in every Community Education Provider Networks workstream, at the STP forums and brought to the Regional Board for Primary Care Workforce Sustainability to see if a long-term solution can be found on a region-wide basis.
In conjunction with partners, the SW AHSN is facilitating a workshop at Exeter Racecourse to progress finding a solution. The workshop will be led by Dr David Geddes, Head of Primary Care Commissioning, NHS England and Keira Liburd, Assistant Head of Primary Care, Quality and Regulation – Interim, NHS England. The workshop will scope the potential for the South West to become a test bed for a new model of Indemnity cover which meets the future needs of General Practice. All attendees are welcome, we recognise the value in a broad representation from across general practice.
For the right solution to be found it is important for us to first obtain some information from practices about your indemnity cover. A short survey for all practitioners working in general practice has been developed to ask about current and historical indemnity premiums. The results of the questionnaire will be shared anonymously through normal communication routes and used to inform the workshop on 29 November 2016. You can assist in finding the solution to the rising cost of indemnity premium by completing the survey at www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/SW_Indemnity
